Subtle Struggle Toward the Dream, 45 x 60 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2011. A gift for Patrise Perkins-Hooker, first African American President of the State Bar of Georgia.
I was in the room when history was made. Patrise Perkins-Hooker was sworn in as the first African American President of the State Bar of Georgia at the 2014 Annual Bar Conference on Amelia Island, FL.
Her acceptance speech was amazing and particularly touching to someone like me who has experienced the progression of black people first hand.
Such a momentous occasion deserved a quilt, of course. My gift to Patrise is Subtle Struggle Toward the Dream #3. I didn’t know why I was making this quilt when I made it, but it is the perfect gift for Patrise.
I just love this quilt for its beauty and its message. What an ideal present for Madame President of the State Bar of Georgia.
