So I just had to find Block #1 and having found it, I am not disappointed. I didn’t think of the African fabric as a choice also. I am trying to figure out what background and sashing fabrics to use. Your background fabric appears to be a pale blue batik. Linen is one of my choices…a taupe color or black. What do you think? When using black, it restricts the color palette of vases and bowls and such. hmmmmm.

I am trying to incorporate at least one African fabric in each block to give the quilt an ethnic flavor. As for the background, I don’t know what color it is. It started out a pale green. I was told at the quilt store that it is the fabric used in the popular Rose of Sharon quilt. I was told to be sure and wash it because other quilters said it changed colors when washed. It did. I purchased 10 yards of it so I knew I was stuck with whatever the color. I have no idea what I will use to pull all of this together in the end. Right now I am just hoping to get to the end.
