Colored Girl Dreams is part of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild exhibit entitled Not Your Grandmother’s Quilts — African American Quilters in the 21st Century. The exhibit is housed at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, 101 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, GA.
The opening reception for the exhibit is Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 7 p.m. Attendees can meet the quilters, bid on silent auction items, and try to win the special donation quilt made by the guild members. The exhibit runs through December 11, 2011.
Some people say chasing wind mills is a waste of time. I say what is life without a dream? Such is the inspiration behind Colored Girl Dreams.
Colored Girl Dreams is composed of traditional windmill blocks set on point. The brown windmills are placed on a cream background that has gold sparkles. Circles appliqued along the border complete the design. A rich brown and metallic border frames the quilt. The machine quilting is exquisite and was done by Ina Sanders. The back of the quilt is a motif of African women. There is a label on the back that documents the quilt and a hanging sleeve for easy display. I signed the quilt on the front.
Colored Girl Dreams is one of a kind. It is offered for sale for $1500.00 in my Studio Store.
