Give Yourself Flowers if No One Else Does

Give Yourself Flowers, 28 x 31 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2010. For Sale at ovbrant.etsy.com.

Many philosophers believe that hand work frees the mind.   I agree. So I decided that now that I had a house without my teenager, it was a good time to clean and  plan the rest of my life.

Once the house was all neat and tidy, I was reminded of what my quilting friend Cleme said when she recently surprised me with a bouquet of  flowers because she missed the opening reception of the Atlanta Quilt Festival.

She said, “I always keep fresh flowers in my house. I owe it to myself.”

Such a gift was hardly necessary, but I have to admit I greatly enjoyed having a bouquet of fresh flowers in my home.

So off I went into my back yard. Nothing was blooming so I picked some green foliage and put it in a beautiful vase. It made me smile.

All of this reminded me how important it is to be good to yourself and to not wait for someone else to make you happy.   Give Yourself Flowers is a quilt I made to remind me of this very important life lesson.
