Most days I am very proud of my daughter India. Today I am really proud of her!
For the next month, India is doing an internship with her personal orthopedic surgeon Dr. Peter Symbas. (Dr. Symbas put India’s knee back together after she tore her ACL in the 10th grade playing basketball). At the Lovett school, this part of the curriculum is called the senior project. Participation is strictly voluntary, and it places the burden on the student to propose a project and to get approvals from the project host, all teachers, and a faculty committee. If approved, the student is exempt from the last month of school and goes each day to her new work location.
India plans to major in Sports Medicine in college and hopes to someday become an orthopedic surgeon. For her to take the initiative as a high school senior to maneuver her way into working with one of the best orthopedic surgeons in Georgia takes a certain amount of sass. I like sass in a woman.
As for Dr Symbas’s office, I am sure they will benefit from my girl’s inner sunshine. I do every day.
