A Different Drummer #1, 15 x 18 inches, by O.V. Brantley, 2009.
Sometimes you run across a piece of fabric, and it just jumps off the shelf and inspires you to make a quilt. Such was the case when I saw the three African ladies. I just knew I had to put them in a quilt. With the quilts for the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt show completed and delivered, I had the time.
Well, one quilt has actually turned into 10 quilts and a series was born! The new series is called A Different Drummer. The series gets its name from the fabric on the back of each quilt. It is called Drums of Africa, and the line was designed by African American designer Sonie Ruffin.
These little quilts present an opportunity to own a unique art quilt at a reasonable price. All of the quilts in this series are only $50. Each one is signed, numbered and unique. They are documented with a label on the back, and a hanging sleeve is attached for easy display.
They are not all finished yet, but you can visit my Studio Store to see the beginning of the series and to claim one for your own.
