Lovett Lady Lions Advance to Sweet Sixteen

slamdunk-girl-colorComing in as true underdogs, the Lady Lovett Lions advanced in the State  AA Tournament by beating the Lady Red Jackets of Jordan High School in Columbus, GA. We were down six points at the half, but the Lady Lions dug deep and managed to come out on top 58-56.

And since this is a partisan blog, yes, India played some awesome defense shutting down one the Lady Red Jackets’ best shooters and making the critical steal at the end of the game to preserve the victory. However, what has made this team special is that they are a team with a different “star” in every game. Coach Liz Kennedy starts two freshman, one sophomore, one junior and one senior. If you know anything about high school girls, you can imagine what it takes to meld that combination of players into a cohesive team.

The Lady Lions are savoring this important accomplishment in their basketball program before settling down to play Model High School in Rome, GA on Tuesday.

Go Lady Lions!
