India Earns Athletic Scholarship at PITT

India Earns Athletic Scholarship at PITT

My daughter India was recently awarded an athletic scholarship by University of Pittsburgh Women’s Head Basketball Coach Agnus Berenato. India serves as one of the managers for the Women’s Basketball Team. In addition to the scholarship, India travels with the team, has access to the athletic training table (better food) and can utilize the athletic academic [...]

African Starry Night Is My First Quilt to Be Licensed

African Starry Night Is My First Quilt to Be Licensed

It is not unusual for people to love my quilts. There is just something about touching the fabric, remembering your grandmother, and reflecting on the love and patience that went into making it that makes it impossible not to love a quilt. However, it is quite a different kind of love that makes a person [...]

Music Girl Enrolls at PITT

Music Girl Enrolls at PITT

For India, it is always tough to decide which quilts go with her to the University of Pittsburgh and which quilts stay home. This year, Music Girl made the cut, along with India’s Basketball Star and her constant companion AYSC Aliens. Music Girl is her memory quilt that is part of the African Canvas Memory [...]

Hope You Had a Summer Vacation

Although I chose to spend my vacation money turning my attic into a quilt studio,  I hope you had the opportunity to take a memorable vacation. Caribbean Rock is a reminder of my many vacations in the Caribbean. This one was on a cruise ship called Costa Mediterranea. India and I tried to learn to [...]

Slacker Quilter

When daughter India thinks I haven’t done something that a proper Mom would do, she calls me “Slacker Mom.” Well, this month I am calling myself “Slacker Quilter.” I have woefully neglected my quilting. However, now that I have gotten “Slacker Daughter” settled in college for her sophomore year, things should pick up. After all, [...]

Quilt School is Fun

Saturday, I gathered with 20 other women to learn how to paint on fabric with watercolor paints. The class was taught by Master Quilter Juanita Yeager and was part of the festivities of the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival. I always enjoyed school, and I enjoy quilt school even more. Whether I intend to continue [...]

India Spends Week in the North Georgia Mountains

India Spends Week in the North Georgia Mountains

My daughter India will not even sit on our patio, but she loves the Atlanta Young Singers‘ summer camp.  She attended as a camper and has returned two years as a counselor. This year, she is enjoying being Head Counselor. When she was forced to go camping during her junior year at the Lovett School [...]

A Small Vacation

I just returned from spending a few days at the beach on Hilton Head Island. I really needed the time away after a grueling three months of big firm law life.  India had just completed her freshman year at PITT and was home for a week. That gave me yet another reason to take some time [...]

India Rocks!

India Rocks!

India Rocks! began on a cruise when India wanted to visit every Hard Rock Cafe we could find. Naturally we bought a t-shirt. This was the beginning of her Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt collection. She continued to collect them over the years, and they ended up in this quilt.

Inspiration

Here is another one of our cruise quilts. India and I  sailed on the Carnival cruise ship Inspiration. Visiting Belize was the highlight of the trip for us. The coin and most of the fabric is from Belize.
