Remember When You Were Invincible?

Remember when we were invincible? Being young makes you feel that way — no challenge too great, no dream unimaginable, a feeling that you can conquer the world. However, by the time we reach middle age, life has knocked us down so many times that it is hard to be strong, let along invincible.

Middle age is a time of great sorrow for many people. Careers are not where they were expected to be. Children did not turn out right. Married to the wrong person. No money. Bad health. And the list goes on and on. Deep regrets for lost opportunities or unwise decisions become overwhelming, and we long for that time when we felt invincible.

Reflection on the past is good, but only so we can carry the good forward and leave the bad where it belongs. What was your deepest longing when you felt invincible? Instead of allowing disappointment to turn into crisis, take a tiny step toward fulfilling that deeply buried dream. It’s not too late. Being older and wiser will make you even more invincible.

So this week I share with you one of my newest pieces called Purple Rainforest. If as Proverbs says, a longing fulfilled is a tree of life, by the end of my life, I hope to see a rainforest — lush and over flowing. I wish that for you as well.
